Shevah Weiss Death, Obituary – Shevah Weiss, who had served as Israeli Ambassador to the United States and had previously served as Speaker of the Knesset, passed away, as was just brought to our attention. As a result of hearing this, our hearts are filled with sorrow. As a token of appreciation for the steadfast friend he had been to others, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit.

Infamy will follow him throughout his life. On Friday, Shevah Weiss, who had served as a speaker of the Knesset in the past, passed away at the age of 87. Weiss is currently a professor of political science after having served as a member of the Knesset (MK) for the Labor Party for a total of seventeen years between the years 1981 and 1999, as speaker of the 13th Knesset between the years 1992 and 1996, and later as a highly regarded ambassador to Poland and chairman of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Authority. Between 1981 and 1999, he was actively involved in the political process.

Weiss served as Speaker of the Knesset during the tenure of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated in 1995. Rabin was the leader of Israel at the time. Rabin was slain in 1995. An interview with Weiss that was conducted and released by the Knesset Museum revealed that he had survived the Holocaust. During the course of the interview, he related how two different women opened their homes to him, his parents, and two of his siblings while they were hiding from the Nazis during World War II.

In 1935, Weiss was born in what is now known as Lviv, Poland, which was then a part of Poland. In the same year that he started his academic studies in 1969, he also started his career in politics by becoming a council member in the Haifa Municipality. He was a member of the council for a total of 12 years, from 1969 all the way up until 1981. After this, he moved up to a more prominent position on a national level and was elected to the Knesset. In 1947, he made the move to settle in the territory that would one day become Israel.
