John Petrella Obituary, Death – John Philip Petrella, 74 years old, passed away on Monday, February 06, 2023, at his home in Plymouth, surrounded by his devoted family. He was a resident of Plymouth. He was the husband of Janet (Cannata) Petrella and the son of Guy and Elizabeth (Volta) Petrella, both of whom passed away. His wife’s maiden name was Cannata. On May 20, 1948, the birth took place in East Boston. John worked in information technology for a significant portion of his life, beginning his career with the Bank of Boston, where he was employed for more than 20 years.
He started working for Iron Mountain in the year 2000, and he retired from the company in 2014 as an IT Executive. After he retired, he continued his career in the information technology industry for a number of years as a consultant. John led an incredibly busy life throughout his entire existence; he had a passion for playing tennis and golf, and he was frequently accompanied by his lifelong friends on the court and course. In his earlier years, he was a passionate photographer who also ran his own photography studio in Manchester, New Hampshire.
He counted himself quite fortunate to have been given the chance to travel extensively for work. He was able to forge wonderful friendships no matter where he traveled, but particularly in India. John and Janet loved to see the world, and whenever they went on a once-in-a-lifetime trip, they always included their friends and family in the experience. He was a phenomenal cook and was often referred to as the “family chef.”
John’s roles as a husband, father, and grandfather brought him the most joy. He was the most creative member of the family as well as the most compassionate and gentle. The only way to love him was to get to know him. John will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Julie Ledwak and her husband Kenny of Duxbury and Christine Sapra and her husband Surya of Duxbury, as well as by his two sisters, Carol Guarente and her husband Eddy of Billerica and Lois Albanese and her husband Gerry of Revere.
In addition to his devoted wife of fifty-two years, Janet, John is survived by two daughters, Julie Ledwak and her husband Kenny of Duxbury In addition, he is survived by his four devoted granddaughters, Nelly, Sadie, Siena, and Rya, as well as by his two nephews, Christopher Cannata and his wife Courtney of Medfield and Nick Guarente of Billerica.
In Dorchester, he was the brother-in-law of Charlie Cannata and his wife Jackie. In Dayton, Ohio, he was the brother-in-law of Cynthia Felson and her partner Jeff Silverstein. In West Roxbury, he was the brother-in-law of Jeanne Cannata and her partner Cate Arnold. In Salem, Oregon, he was the brother-in-law of Susan Cannata and her partner Jesse Peters.
