Jim Chase Obituary Death – The passing of Jim Chase SR has left Cardinal Lanes in a state of mourning. Jim unexpectedly went away on Sunday, February 4, when he was at home. Jim was among Cardinal Lane’s most ardent fans and supporters.
Jim’s bowling career began at Cardinal Lanes in 1970 and continues there to this day. He served in many of our leagues as both the secretary and treasurer of those leagues. In the USBC’s Southern region, he was known as an ardent bowler.
Jim was such a significant figure at Cardinal Lanes that many students and staff referred to him as Father Chase. Jim served as the league secretary for our Monday night Hunts Auto league, the league treasurer and secretary for Tuesday night No-Tap league, the league secretary for Wednesday morning Senior league, treasurer and secretary for Thursday night Men’s league, the league secretary for Friday night All lakes league, and the league secretary and treasurer for Saturday night league ( Corky Whitmarsh No-Tap ).
Jim will be remembered fondly by everyone, and our hearts go out to Miss Betty and the rest of the Chase family during this difficult time. Because Jim and Betty have been so supportive of Cardinal Lanes over the years, we have held a “No Tap” tournament each of the past three years in their honor.
Many of you are aware of this. Jim would like this event to take place on the weekend of February 11th and 12th, which is when we are still planning to host it. In the past four years, I’ve had the privileged chance to collaborate closely with a person of such high caliber, and I consider it a source of tremendous pride. At Cardinal Lanes, we consider it a privilege to count Jim as a member of our team. Rest in peace, dear friend.
