Jakwon Ramos Death, Obituary – In the middle of the afternoon on February 2nd, 2023, officers from the Utica Police Department and firefighters from the Utica Fire Department were sent to the Dari Del on the corner of Noyes Street and York Street in response to a report of a female victim who had been shot. It was stated that the female victim had been shot in the abdomen, and that the suspect was still inside the store and may have shot themselves. The gunshot wound to the suspect may have been accidental.
The female victim was rushed to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital by the Utica Fire Department as soon as they arrived on the scene. It was discovered at the scene that due to her injuries, she required immediate emergency surgery, and as of the time of this release, that procedure is still taking place.
A cordon was placed around the immediate area, and a perimeter was set up around the store as a precaution against the possibility that the man was still inside the establishment with the handgun. Officers from the METRO SWAT teams of the Utica Police Department, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, and the New Hartford Police Department arrived on the location and assumed control of the security measures there. In addition, the Herkimer Police Department was asked to provide a robotic car.
After then, METRO SWAT and the Herkimer Police Department collaborated with a drone and a robot in order to penetrate the facility. They conducted surveillance inside the store and found the male in the back of the establishment while they were there. The male was found lying motionless on the ground, and officers and UFD workers located the suspect as they were making entrance into the building. It was immediately obvious that he had shot himself in the head and died as a result of his own actions.
Jakwon Ramos, age 27, originally from the Bronx, has been identified as the guy. The Major Crimes Unit of the Utica Police Department is in charge of the investigation at this point. As part of this inquiry, it will be necessary to uncover the chain of occurrences that led up to the shooting as well as any possible motivations behind it.
