Gordon John Death, Obituary – Our dearly loved father and husband, Gordon “Skip” John Condon, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family and friends. It is with a sad heart that we must inform you of this news. His death was peaceful and easy. During the course of his career, our father instructed, mentored, and helped improve the athletic skills of hundreds upon hundreds of children and teenagers living in the Altoona area.
He logged thousands of hours doing this work. If he coached you or if you coached with him because he was a coach, you would know that he was a fierce competitor since he was a coach. He fought dementia with the same vigor that he fought everything else, but unfortunately, dementia was finally victorious. He fought it with everything he had. Being able to act as a guide and mentor to younger people was one of the most meaningful things he did with his life.
In lieu of flowers, the Central Blair Recreation Commission requests that you consider making a donation in their name instead. They will be grateful for anything you are able to provide. This is the kind of request that would fill our father with an overwhelming sense of respect and pride. In the event that any residents of the Central Blair Community are considering making a memorial contribution to the organization in his honor, you are more than welcome to deliver these condolences on behalf of the community to the Recreation Commission.
You will be doing so on behalf of the Central Blair Community. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated by our organization. In the next spring, we are going to organize a get-together in his honor where individuals will have the opportunity to come together and chat about the influence he had on their life as well as pay tribute to him. The date, time, and location of the meeting have not yet been determined; however, any new information will be posted on the Commissions’ Facebook page as it becomes available.
