Francis Friel Death, Obituary – “Frank” Francis L. Friel, M.D. The 17th of January, 1934, in Amboy, Illinois, is the day and site of his birth. After having been laid to rest on the 31st of January 2023 in Rockford, Illinois, Dr. Francis “Frank” L. Friel, a resident of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on January 31, 2019, at the age of 89, while he was at home surrounded by loved ones. He had reached the age of 89 at the time of his passing. At the time of his departure, he had attained the age of 89 years old.

His parents, Edwin Friel and Mary “Molly” (Morrissey) Friel, were pleased to welcome their son into the world on January 17, 1934 in the village of Amboy, Illinois. The day marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. At his birth, his mother’s name was given to him as his given name. He was the eighth and final kid of a family that included included seven other brothers and sisters.

During the 47 years that he was in charge of the Friel Chiropractic Clinic in Rockford, Illinois, which was located at 2606 Broadway, he assisted an untold number of patients and was able to make a positive difference in their lives. For the first eight years of his life, Frank received his primary education at a secluded one-room schoolhouse. This was the extent of his formal education. Farm labor took up the rest of Frank’s boyhood, and he spent it helping out on various farms.

Frank got to and from school on “Dick,” his reliable horse, every day instead of using the bus. The total distance covered was close to five kilometers. In 1951, he received his diploma from Amboy High School, but after graduation, he continued to maintain contact with many of the people at the school with whom he had developed strong friendships while he was a student there. During the course of his tenure there, he amassed a large number of close friends.

In 1953, he was obligated to serve in the United States Army, and he did so in a respectable manner for the entirety of his nation’s engagement in the Korean War. After completing the required amount of basic training, Frank continued his studies by enrolling in the JAG (Judge Advocate General) school for an extra six months to study Military Law and Court Reporting.

This was after he had already completed the required amount of basic training. Following that, he spent the rest of his tenure in the military in Seoul, Korea, acting as the Secretary to the Commander of the Third Transportation Railway Command. The majority of his time spent in service was spent in this job.
