Elroy Larimore Death, Obituary – Elroy Larimore, who was 91 years old and lived in Horse Cave, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his home. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Elroy Larimore devoted the vast majority of his adult life to serving the requirements of the general public. In the years 1958 to 1961, he served as Deputy Sheriff of Hart County, and later, he became General Manager of the Green River Valley Water District (1962 – 1996).
Elroy guided the Green River Valley Water District during his tenure as General Manager to become one of the largest and most effectively managed rural water systems in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This accomplishment was accomplished thanks in large part to Elroy’s leadership. He had a strong commitment to the community effort of supplying and preserving clean, SAFE drinking water for all people living in rural areas. Elroy was very involved in a wide variety of civic, political, and community-based organizations on the state, local, and national levels.
Elroy was a charter member of the Barren River Area Development District, serving as Chairman and numerous other offices throughout the years; he received the 2016 Tim Lee Carter Award for Distinguished Service; he received the National Association of Development Organization (NADO) Nick Salazar Leadership Award in 1991; he was an Incorporator of the Hart County Planning Commission; an original founder of the Hart County Planning Commission; and he was a recipient of the 2016 Tim Lee Carter Award for Distinguished Service.
All of these accomplishments are By serving on the Board of Directors of the National Rural Water Association for a period of twenty years, as well as holding the positions of President (1988–1990) and Chaplin during that time, he was a significant contributor to the significant advancements that were made (1990 – 2003). Recognized as the NRWA Man of the Year in 1989; awarded the title of Citizen of the Year by the Hart County Chamber of Commerce in both 1970 and 1989. Elroy is very involved in Gideon International and is a member of the international organization Rotary International.
