In spite of the fact that he was born in New York City, he spent the majority of his youth in Chesterland, Ohio. In addition to his work as a trial attorney for the Federal Trade Commission and the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, he served as a partner at the international law firms Howrey & Simon and Orrick, Herrington & Sutclife. He also worked as an attorney for the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. Additionally, he held a job in the legal sector. In 1996, he was also the chairman of a noteworthy campaign for the Democratic Party to win a seat in the United States House of Representatives in the state of Virginia. This race was for a seat in Virginia.
When Tom accepted a post as a Professor of Law at the University of South Dakota in 2009, it marked the beginning of his transition into a career in academia on a full-time basis. Tom has been there ever since. He has been a visiting professor at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, the South Dakota Trial Academy, and the Chinese Youth University for Political Science in Beijing, China.
All three of these institutions are located in the United States. His most notable achievements and awards include being named a Johnson, Heidepriem & Abdallah Trial Advocacy Fellow, receiving the Belbas-Larson Award for Excellence in Teaching, and being given the John Wesley Jackson Award for Outstanding Professor of Law. These are just a few examples. Tom was viewed in very high regard and affection by his students, coworkers, and peers in the community. After his passing, he will be sorely missed by everyone in the legal world.
